Esteban Ocon još je jedna potencijalna buduća zvijezda Formule 1 koja će svoj debi imati na VN Belgije u bolidu Manora. Tamo će doći na mjesto koje je dosad imao Rio Haryanto i vozit će uz još jednog Mercedesovog štićenika Wehrleina.

Svoju karijeru u jednosjedima započeo je 2012. u Formuli Renault 2.0 Alps i Eurocup gdje je završio na 7. odnosno 14. mjestu u ukupnim poretcima. 2013. je vozio ponovo vozio Eurocup i ovaj put je završio treći, dok je u NEC-u završio 12. 2014. prelazi u europsku Formulu 3 gdje osvaja naslov i to ispred Maxa Verstappena (koji je bio i iza Toma Blomqvista ali on je nebitan :mrgreen: ). Iduće sezone prelazi u GP3 i tamo također osvaja naslov.

Nakon 2 juniorska naslova, 2016. je postao zajednički test vozač Renaulta i Mercedesa, a za Mercedes je vozio u DTM-u gdje nije bio uspješan, ostvario je samo jedan rezultat u bodovima u 10 utrka. DTM karijeru prekinuo mu je poziv da preuzme mjesto Ria Haryanta u Manoru u drugom dijelu sezone. Ukoliko se pokaže dobrim u ostatku ove sezone, tko zna, možda već iduće sezone bude u tvorničkoj momčadi Renaulta.

OCON: MAX AND I HATED ONE ANOTHER

Esteban Ocon and Max Verstappen know each other very well, in 2014 the pair slugged it out in the European F3 championship which the Frenchman won and reveals that there was (and maybe still is) no love most between the two young guns.

Since then Verstappen has stormed onto the Formula 1 scene in a manner seldom seen before, starting in 2015 with Toro Rosso and this year promoted mid-season to Red Bull for which he is already a winner and now a constant front-runner.

Ocon meanwhile got his Formula 1 break with the back-marker Manor team at the Belgian Grand Prix, subsequently he has impressed. So much so that he has been signed to race for Force India in 2017, chosen by Vijay Mallya ahead of his highly rated Manor teammate Pascal Wehrlein.

Asked by Formule1.nl website if he was surprised that Verstappen beat him to the F1, Ocon said, “Max was lucky that he could get in so quickly. I did not last year. But he had the potential, and to be honest he earned it. He is a very fast driver and I’m not surprised that he is doing so well.”

I raced against him in 2011 in karting, when we fought hard in all the races, like in Formula 3. We always came up against each other. The battle in the Formula 3 was heavy and intense. I was usually quicker in qualifying, but he was better in the race.”

It was not nice racing against Max! It was often on the verge of dangerous. I don’t know how often we raced wheel-to-wheel. But we never crashed, so you can conclude that they were tough but fair battles.”

In a short while in Formula 1, Verstappen has built a reputation as a tough driver to race against, aggressive in defense and ruthless on the attack. How does Ocon compare?

I find it hard to say,” admitted Ocon. “What I do know is that he drives a lot more aggressively than me. I’m aggressive when it is required but not all the time. I think first before I make an aggressive move or take a risk. That’s a big difference between me and Max.”

Asked if there is mutual respect between the two, the Frenchman said, “Not really. On the job maybe, never outside it. We hated each other during the [F3] season, but off-track it was okay. I think that since then we have become more mature.”

Next year the pair are likely to line-up closer on the grid than they have this season, with Ocon at Force India and Verstappen at Red Bull, there may be times when they go wheel-to-wheel again and it will be a feud to watch as many believe that Mercedes backed Ocon will have a top F1 drive in the future.

I to je to.
Misija sa Manor je zavrsena.
Sad nas ocekuje mnogo veci posao nego sto je to bilo u Manoru. Dobice konkurentan bolid i nek pokaze sta zna. Nema opravdanja.
Ugovor potpisan na vise godina tako da sve je na stranu njega.
Vjerujem u njega i njegove vjestine.

Veliko hvala Manoru jer da nije bilo njih, nebi bilo ni Forc Indije.

I’ve been on the learning curve this week in Melbourne and I’m not feeling particularly satisfied with today’s qualifying session. Yes, it’s the first time I’ve reached Q2, but there is more potential in the car. I learned a huge amount during the session and despite being far away from Sergio in Q1, I was much closer in Q2. Unfortunately I made a small mistake on my final run, so I missed the chance to be higher up the grid. We saw today just how close the midfield fight is going to be this year because even small margins can make a huge difference. On the positive side, we improved the car during qualifying; we improved our procedures and we’ve learned things that will help us going forward. I go into tomorrow’s race believing there is a good opportunity to fight for points. The first challenge will be the new start procedures, which could really mix things up on lap one. I’m excited for tomorrow and ready for my first race in Melbourne!”

Prvi poen u F1 je uzet.

Bez obzira sta pricao Alonso o njegovom bolidu stvarno sam zadovoljan odradjenim poslom. Kakav god bolid imao Alonso( inace na sva tri treninga i kvalifikacijama bio ispred Okona), nije ga lako obici. Ipak klasa ja klasa.
Takodje ostaviti Hulka iza sebe i pobjediti ga takticki i vozacki nije mala stvar ako uzmemo u obzir to da prvi put vozi na ovoj stazi, kao i bolid.

Boriti se bukvalno 56 krugova sa vozacima poput Alonsa i Hulk, na kraju ih pobjediti je fantastican uspjeh za vozaca kao sto je Okon i iskustvo.
Iskreno nakon treninga i kvalifikacija, nisam vjerovao da ce doci do boda. Ni da ce se boriti.

Tempo na trci je bio Ok. Dok je bio zaglavljen iza Alonsa, krugovi su mu bili od 1.30 do 1.31. Rijetko kad 1.32. Cim je obisao Alonsa krug mu je bio 1.28, 1.29.

Drago mi je sto se ovaj poen poklopio i sa rezultatom Pereza.

Upravo sam procitao da su njegovi roditelji bili prisiljeni prodati kucu i zivjeti u kamp prikolici kako bi financirali njegovu karting karijeru. Tako da respekt za njegove roditelje koji su se zrtvovali za svoga sina te takoder za njega koji im se oduzuje na najbolji moguci nacin.

Esteban Ocon still wary he faces 'big learning curve' in F1

Force India’s Esteban Ocon has emphasised that he is still on “big learning curve” but is chasing another top 10 finish at this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix.

This year marks Ocon’s first full campaign in a race seat in Formula 1, having tested for Mercedes and Renault in 2016, before making his debut with the now extinct Manor team mid-season.

Mercedes-backed Ocon switched to Force India for 2017, alongside Sergio Pérez, and captured a point on his first outing for the team in Australia, having overhauled Fernando Alonso during the closing stages.

Ocon reckons he can compete for the points once more when the sport visits China this weekend, but is cautious that he still has a lot to understand.

“In Melbourne I said that I am on a big learning curve and the same will be true in China,” he explained.

I still need to build my speed with the VJM10 – it’s about exploring the limits of the car and understanding how to manage the tyres during qualifying and the race.

“What we learned in Melbourne will certainly make things a bit easier this weekend, but you never stop learning in this sport.

“I’ve never driven at the Shanghai circuit, so it’s going to be another new track for me to learn on Friday.

“After the street circuit of Melbourne, it will be nice to go to a track which is the complete opposite with lots of open space.

“I think the car should be more suited to Shanghai, but it’s hard to know until we get there and drive. The goal, once again, is to score some points.”


Ocon also revelled in the manner in which he and Force India have developed a strong working relationship in a short period of time.

I’ve settled in nicely to this team and I’m working well with my engineers and my car crew,” he said.

“It’s important to feel comfortable and I like the way we do things. It’s a very open atmosphere and the team understands what I need from the car.”

Esteban Ocon: “With just two out-laps to my name, I didn’t really learn very much today. It was useful being in the car because I was able to get used to the various elevation changes on the track and I got to try the intermediate tyre, but of course I would have preferred to do a lot more running. Tomorrow looks like it will be a very busy day, especially in FP3, so let’s hope conditions are better and we can get on with our programme. I hope the fans are not too disappointed by today’s lack of action: hopefully they’ll keep coming to watch and they’ll be rewarded by an exciting race on Sunday.”
