The Australian authorities have launched an investigation into the 'Mission Winnow' brand, the title sponsor of Scuderia Ferrari.
This logo, remember, appeared since last autumn (on the occasion of the weekend of the GP of Japan, ed) on the Red and on the suits and helmets of the pilots, is an initiative of Philip Morris historical partner of Maranello. Since the ban on cars has been imposed to advertise sponsors tabaccai, Ferrari is back on track with a car that promotes a real brand of Philip Morris.
Many believe that this initiative is just a different way to maintain Marlboro sponsorship, figured for so many decades on the Cavallino cars. In fact, in the design used for the words "Mission Winnow", the letter "M" in white inevitably invokes the famous brand of cigarettes.
As reported by The Age newspaper in Melbourne, the survey conducted by the Federal Department of Health of Australia and the Department of Health and Human Services of the State of Victoria (started a little over a month from the Albert Park competition that will mark the 'beginning of the new season of Formula One, ed) want to verify compliance with the laws on tobacco control and advertising.
"This (Mission Winnow, ed) has nothing to do with Formula One cars," said Australian anti-smoking activist John Cunningham.
The answer from Philip Morris was not lacking, which on its website is defended with these words: "The tobacco industry is a highly regulated space, we always respect the laws that have to do with our activities. This campaign is not different and complies with all laws, including those on advertising and the promotion of tobacco products. It promotes no product of the brand ".
