kHmWhen Alonso was asked about his commitment to McLaren in the wake of Briatore's comments, he said: "Definitely. I can tell you I will not go anywhere else.
"I trust this project. McLaren, Honda, with the potential both companies have, it's just a matter of time [before] they will win again.
"Unfortunately we are in a difficult time and the starting point was quite low, but we are making progress as fast as we can, and hopefully we can make this tough time as short as possible."
Alonso confirmed to still being in regular contact with Briatore, and despite the veteran Italian's comments, concedes to being "happy", but only to a point.
"I am happy here, happy with the progress we are making, with the challenge we have in front of us, with the philosophy and the discipline I have found this year working with one of the greatest teams and greatest engine manufacturer that I have worked with," he said.
"So I am enjoying this process in terms of how we are improving things and making progress, but at the same time it's no secret we are here to win and we are here to fight for championships.
"Especially after the last few years with seconds and thirds. I was not totally happy with my five years at Ferrari.
"If we are not winning I can enjoy the process and enjoy working with the guys.
"But definitely you are not so happy when you start 14th after doing one of the best laps I have done here in Suzuka.
Izvor"It's going to be tough for everyone because the pressures are so high, the tyres are just going to be overheating after one lap," he said.
"They end up being like balloons because the pressures get so high.
"Everyone will have problems tomorrow, and we'll be included in that."
Romain Grosjean added: "It's going to be [a problem] since the limits, the restrictions are really extreme.
"It's difficult for everyone. There are teams that are going better than others, but [the pressures] are massively higher than what we would normally run."
His Lotus team-mate Pastor Maldonado is also anticipating a "quite difficult" race given the tyres last for "only one lap".
Maldonado added: "It's too late now, this is what Pirelli decided before starting the weekend, so it's going to be quite tricky during the race.
"I understand on the safety side why they decided to go for those pressures, but on the other hand, the tyres are not performing well."
Daniel Ricciardo acknowledged the tyres could be an issue in the race, but he is confident Red Bull will not be too adversely affected.
"That's going to be the biggest challenge for everyone, tyre temps," said Ricciardo.
Hembery said: "It's based on the most extreme performance levels, so there's a big gap of course between the frontrunners and the people who are a little bit behind.
"The cars haven't stood still, there's been a dramatic change in performance and a dramatic increase in loads so that's necessitated some changes.
"Suzuka is, of course, one of the most severe tracks of the season so it would be quite normal for us to be taking that approach."
At the moment, a revised Article 28.5 of F1’s Sporting Regulation proposed by the F1 Commission, states: “Only power units which are identical to the power unit that has been homologated by the FIA in accordance with Appendix 4 of these regulations may be used at an Event during the 2016-2020 Championship seasons.”Honda has ruled out giving a last-minute lifeline to Toro Rosso for next season, making Red Bull’s engine situation even more precarious.
With Red Bull boss Christian Horner having admitted that both the company’s teams are in a ‘critical’ situation regarding power supply for next year, there had been suggestions in recent days that Honda could step in.
If the Japanese manufacturer were to approve a plan to supply Toro Rosso with customer engines for 2016, that could then help convince Ferrari about doing a Red Bull deal as it would only need to give engines to one more team.
At the moment, Ferrari is reluctant to offer Red Bull and Toro Rosso anything more than updated 2015 engines because it is too late to sort out extra 2016 supplies.
Honda says no
Although a Honda supply deal with Toro Rosso would be the most logical solution, the Japanese company insists there is no change of plan to expand beyond its exclusive arrangement with McLaren for now.
Honda's motorsport chief Yasuhisa Arai has already repeatedly said that extra deals would come no earlier than 2017.
A Honda spokeswoman has confirmed that that position is unchanged, despite Red Bull's increasing desperation to find a way forward.
"As Arai-san has said, Honda has no plans of supplying a second team next year, and this has not changed," she said.
“As Honda have always said since returning to Formula 1, we are open to supplying additional teams in the near future.
"However, as it is very late in the 2015 calendar year to make such decisions, it is unlikely that we will be supplying any other teams for the 2016 season.
“The combination of a new power unit and a new chassis will require additional development from both parties.”
