Formula E, in which Wehrlein has been racing for almost one and a half years, is now "definitely" his priority. "For me, Formula E is a super series that is getting bigger and bigger. There are very, very cool manufacturers involved, and we have a world championship next year. I think that's a very good place for the future."

He also likes the fact that as a Formula E driver you can do other parallel projects besides the electric series. "Some drivers do it with a simulator program in Formula One, others focus a little bit on the WEC. That's certainly something that would interest me in the future," says Wehrlein.

The probability is therefore high that the German will also compete in Formula E in the coming seventh season. For which team this will be, however, is still uncertain. "I can't say anything about my contract at the moment," explains Wehrlein and admits: "You're in regular contact with the teams, so of course you're in contact with other teams as well. But he gives no indication as to who exactly that might be.

At the same time, Wehrlein makes it clear: "I definitely feel comfortable with Mahindra, it's a great team. The people are warm and they welcomed me right away. That's also very characteristic of Dilbagh (Gill, team boss), he's very enthusiastic."

With 17 points from five races, Mahindra is only tenth overall so far. But the Indian racing team has shown in the past that it is a strong team and can win races, says Wehrlein. "But of course you also have to see that other big manufacturers with more budget (come into the series). And here we are really talking about top racing teams and manufacturers. It's not easy, of course."

Whether Wehrlein will be attracted to one of these "top teams" after the current season is not foreseeable at the moment. So far this year, the 25-year-old could only recommend himself for higher tasks with a fourth place in Chile, a strong comeback in Mexico and the odd quick qualifying lap or two. He is currently 14th in the overall standings.
