SPORT BILD: Mr. Vettel, after the first few weeks at Ferrari: Are you still in romantic honeymoon, or has already set everyday?
Sebastian Vettel (27): Well, romantic honeymoon I would not call the whole thing anyway. Let's put it this way: I was warmly welcomed, and I have also immediately felt comfortable. But most of my visits have served in the factory to better understand and meet the people and processes at Ferrari.
Everyday life so!
S: We're finally not traveling for fun, but have set ourselves goals that we want to achieve as quickly as possible. In the tests, of course, a certain day has been leveled. The there must be but to work successfully. However, I would say that it is a very exciting day because so overall everything is so new for me at Ferrari.
At the very first test you surprised with personal bests. How have your goals for the season affected?
S: Not at all. The first impression in the tests was good, but you have to keep the ball only once nice and flat and give the whole time. What I do know is, how much work is still ahead of us. Ferrari is a team that just is changing. It will take a while until everyone feels comfortable and has rightly found in his new role - including me. But, clearly, we are all very confident. We all have a common great goal: to get step by step forward to create the connection and hopefully soon mitzumischen in front.
Once the expert bests least motivated?
S: That was not necessary, because playing lap times do not matter. My motivation can not be greater. Ferrari is a new challenge for me.
What are the differences you could find to Red Bull already?
S: Everything was blue, which is now red .... (Laughs). Joking aside, of course, there are always differences when changing the team. This is largely because it the different cultures of the team. The language is different, although we speak of one and the same thing, but uses different expressions. It is also clear that the car feels very different and can therefore go the other way. This starts with the steering wheel, which has a different layout than Red Bull (see page 38; d Red..). Especially in detail, there are many differences. The main daily routines of the race weekends are but basically remained the same.
You have dreamed of as a child of Ferrari ...
S: Right. For me went with my move to Ferrari in fact a childhood dream come true, because of course I always had the image of Michael in his red car in front of me. Even the way up to his first title I have in mind.
Y
ou walk in the footsteps of your great idol Schumacher. Is this burden, obligation or incentive?
S: A driver with Michael to compare is virtually impossible. The achievements of Michael, is unique. He has played in his own league.
Have you spoken to Schumacher times about switching to Ferrari?
S: In recent years, we have of course talked about. He knows the team like no other. Become Specifically, we are not. Unfortunately, it is actually also so that I can not share with him my enthusiasm and joy. But I wish, of course, that it will soon improve it - and that I then can personally bring him the news.
Do you feel that the Italians see you as the logical successor to Schumacher?
S: There is always something very special for me to be compared to Michael. And I'm also happy that I was so warmly received by all at Ferrari. Still, I'm not Michael, but Sebastian. And I must and will go my own way.
