"As drivers, we strongly believe the end of a tyre's performance window can and should not be a tyre delamination in the form of an explosion.
"I believe there are technologies which prevent such sudden delamination, but for the short term we need to give Pirelli the freedom and support to introduce any measures they declare safe and fit for F1 racing."

Prvi dio

Host: So we asked our viewers-
Seb: Yeah *adjusting rear view mirror*
Host: We asked our viewers which questions they’d like to ask you-
Seb: ok
Host: -on facebook. And we had a lot of questions coming in and we have them here on the ipad. And I’d like to go through them with you. There are also a few private ones, of course
Seb: I can simply say NEXT *laugs*
Host: You can do that. That’s exactly what I was going to suggest. Perfect.

Seb: Let me see.
Host: Oh yeah…that was ideal…
Seb: That was ideal…them driving off ahead of us…they are waiting or parking over there.

Host: Okay so, first question. What car are you driving privately?
Seb: Ferrari!
Host: Ferrari, of course. Which one?
Seb: 458 Speciale. But of course not every day because I think that car is a little bit too good for that. And generally if you have to get somewhere fast or with your family, it’s maybe not the most convenient car. Then I prefer a Fiat Freemont. It’s a family car.
Host: And I once read you own a VW T5 when you’re taking bicycles with you or something? Or did you sell that one?
Seb: Yeah, that’s one I have too. But uuh… *smiles and gesticulates around him at the Ferrari he’s driving* that doesn’t quite fit right now.

Host: What was your first car and how much horsepower did it have?
Seb: My first car was a BMW X3. I got that one from BWM directly as a company car so to speak because they supported me. It had a 2 litre diesel engine but how much horsepower-
Host: We’ve just been taken over by a 125 bike, Sebastian.
Seb: I have to pay attention to the camera!
Host: A moped gang just overtook us…
*random commentary about the camera car they are following*
Seb: -anyways how much horsepower it had? *shakes head*
Host: Was it a 2…3 litre diesel?
Seb: But it had heated seats!
Host: 184 horsepower maybe?
Seb: Probably.

Host: Does your inner Formula 1 driver come out on regular streets or are you holding him back?
Seb: Uuhhm. Honest answer… yes, now and then it does come out, but I will say overall I am rather passive on the road. Just like right now when I’m driving behind a camera car. Usually there’s so much traffic that you don’t get through anyway but if the autobahn is free and you have the right horse under your bum, then yeah you sometimes put your right foot down on the pedal.
Host: Also like on slower streets in rural areas?
Seb: Well yeah, it’s fun
Host: On a roundabout?
Seb: Doing an extra round? Yeah, maybe if nobody looks *grins*
Host: *jokingly* So theoretically if there was a roundabout right here…?
Seb: Maybe there’s a bit much traffic here *high pitched giggle*
Host: We’ll see. We’re in the Taunus here [Hessian mountain area] It’s your home!
Seb: Uh not quite, that’s a little bit further south. It’s Hesse too but I’m more from the Odenwald region. South-Hesse.
Host. All right. But are these also the routes you-
Seb: Well not here. Maybe down in the south.
Host: But generally is it that you’re in the mood to just drive from now and then?
Seb: Yeah sure. It’s just not too easy to schedule. My most common destination is the airport and then back home again so…
Host: So you’re still driving to the airport yourself?
Seb: Yeah! Sure.
Host: Not with a helicopter?
Seb: No, no. *laughs*
Host: How am I supposed to imagine that?
Seb: It’s probably different than people would think. Just the normal way. If I have to get to the airport, then you get into the car and drive to the airport and then takes off in a plane.
Host: And that airplane is probably a bit different… has fewer seats for example? Or are those regular planes that you take?
Seb: Uhm, no it depends. If there’s a good connection, then a normal airline. Especially the oversea flights. There’s no better way really.
Host: Lewis always drives with his red one, doesn’t he?
Seb: Yeah *shrugs* to each their own.

Host: Next question then. How does it feel like when there’s an inferior driver (Nico Rosberg) always in front because they have a superior car?
Seb: Well first of all it’s important to say that there are no bad drivers in Formula 1. I think all guys who are in Formula 1 were successful in the junior programmes. And I believe you always have to work your way to the best team and usually the best drivers are also with the best teams. And *hesitates and smiles* of course you always want to be in the very front but yeah it you look at the podium, naturally, there can only be one on top and at the moment it’s maybe not quite enough but we’re determined to change that. The respect amongst drivers is pretty high, I would say and it’s not like you’re thinking Man that fool over there ahead of me! Impossible! Instead you have respect for that accomplishment.
Host: Do you all occasionally go out and drink a beer together?
Seb: I don’t know if all of them like beer but *laughs*
Host: So you don’t drink beer together if you don’t know.
Seb: Uh..uh. Rather not. I will say that you might run into each other at parties after the races.
Host: So let’s say, you won and then there’s a party at Ferrari, would Nico stop by?
Seb: Uhm, it depends. Usually it’s not a Ferrari party or a Mercedes party but some random party-
Host: Like the biggest and hippest party?
Seb: And then you’re there or you’re not. It depends. If the mood is good there then you stay, if it’s not good, then you leave and go home. So on these occasions you might have a drink together. But it’s not like everyone meets up to go out together.
Host: So it’s not a lot of contact but occasionally-
Seb: Yeah, from time to time
Host: -friendly and on a respectful level.
Seb: Yeah and not as much as people did 30 years ago. It’s just a different era.

Host: *reading off a question* Does Seb also watch the super awesome best car magazine GRIP with the coolest host?
Seb: Is that really what’s written there?
Host: It really is!
Seb: I want to read that myself *grabs the ipad*
Host: I’ll take the steering wheel.
Seb: No, it’s fine. Where is it? I can steer with my knee. *reads* Yeah, that’s what is say! And yes, I do watch occasionally.
Host: Really?! You’re serious?
Seb: Yeah. I mean I wouldn’t know the exact time it comes on but when I’m channel-hopping, then I’ll stick around.
Host: That makes us all really proud now.
Seb: Yeah I mean, why not. Cars is a topic I’m interested in so…if there’s nothing better to watch on the TV! *laughs*

Host: Did you pass your driver’s license without problems and when did you get interested in racing?
Seb: Racing, I’d say from the first moment on that I was able to think because my dad used to be a racer so as a family we would often be on the road. So I’d say the interest was always there and then I started racing myself relatively early. What was the first part of the question?
Host: Your driver’s license!
Seb: My driver’s license! Maybe I’m in denial about it. You could say I didn’t have any problems but I was insanely nervous, I don’t even know why. I wasn’t afraid of driving but yeah to see all the road signs, that you do everything without mistakes, to know all the signs, to look in the mirrors in the right order and backing into a parking space, that was my nightmare. I was hoping I’d be spared from having to drive down a hill backwards and then park but it all worked out well. Not during practice! But at the examination day it did.
Host: So you passed at your first try?
Seb: And the driving examiner was quite gracious, I think, so that’s why.
Host: Is it possible that she knew you?
Seb: I don’t think so! My driving instructor and I, we joked afterwards whether she knew or not but yeah…
Host: So at the regular age of 17.9 you did your license?
Seb: Well, I was a little younger. I had my license at 17 and a half so my examination was at 17 then.
Host: Cool. And you need it for Formula 1, don’t you?
Seb: Uh, no.
Host: So if they revoked your license…?
Seb: There’s is a new regulation that if you lose your road license, you might lose your super license, the one you need for F1, as well, but that again depends on the circumstances. If you were driving too fast and got a speeding ticket, then you don’t lose it. However, if they stop you and you’ve had a few shots of alcohol, then you might not be as lucky.

Host: How many times did they get you for speeding and how many points do you have in Flensburg [German penalty system for road traffic]
Seb: I don’t have any points because I have a Switzerland license.
Host: You don’t have a German license anymore? Why not?
Seb: No, I don’t because if you move to Switzerland you have to give it back and get a new one. That’s quite good because you don’t get any points there but if they catch you for speeding, then it gets really expensive. So that’s why I don’t have any points but I also didn’t have any back when I still had my German license. And the last speeding camera that caught me was a couple of weeks ago but usually I’m driving with speed control and then I’m 5 or 10kmh over the limit.
Host: And that’s already like 300 Euros in Switzerland.
Seb: Yeah about that much.
They see me strollin', they hatin'

Drugi dio prijevoda:
Host: Which profession would you have pursued if racing hadn’t worked out?
Seb: Yeah I dunno because thank god it did work out.
Host: Painter? Selling cars?
Seb: But I think…I did my A-levels and I think I might have gone for something like Mechanical Engineering. I do think something with cars because it’s interesting and fascinating…definitely something technical. So painter…I don’t think so. Selling cars? I don’t know. I’m too honest for that, probably.

Host: What was your first drive in a F1 car like and how did you feel physically and emotionally afterwards?
Seb: So when I drove out of the box, I immediately released the limiter and drove with full throttle because I wanted to know what it could do. After the first day, I was at the end of my physical strength, and also mentally, after the first few rounds I thought to myself Ok, I’m proud to have driven a Formula 1 car, but that’s something for men, that’s nothing for me. So that reaction was really extreme. It was a Williams, 2005 with the V10 engines that had over 900 horsepower and then I was like Ok, thanks a lot but that’s it. My neck was exhausted so I was physically really a wreck. Whenever I was braking, I was only able to see the belts. I could not hold my head up straight anymore. So yeah, it was really tough. After a few laps, you got used to the acceleration. The brakes were the most impressive thing because your head was saying Stop! You have to brake now, there’s the next turn! So as a result, I was breaking really hard and way too early. So lap after lap, I would brake a little later. It was a lot of effort to overcome that but it was ridiculously fun. When I had to get out and it was over, I actually wanted to continue.
Host: Can you compare it to anything? The acceleration?
Seb: Yes. I think if you bought a really sick motorcycle and then really hit the throttle, I think those two things feel really similar, acceleration-wise.
Host: Was that tested somewhere?
Seb: No, I’m speaking from experience.
Host: Ok, what are you driving? Are you allowed to talk about that?
Seb: Yeah, sure. I once drove a superbike to try it out… just straight ahead. That was the first time that I’ve driven something on the road that reminded me of a F1 car. But in a car it’s something different which is a shame because people always want to know what it’s like to drive a F1 car and you want to be like Here just try it out! But it’s not that simple.
Host: They should build something that covers the whole car, and the drivers could take their helmets off and then you’d be able to see if the drivers are still smiling. Do you smile?
Seb: Uuuhm, I dunno. A bit, maybe. At the end of the day it’s also really tiring and I think if you’re looking into the faces of a skier or runner, you can see they are working. And a driver doesn’t really drive around and can’t stop grinning or so.

Host: Why are the other people from Heppenheim such bad drivers?
Seb: Well, I can only speak for my family and they can all drive really well. My buddies too. The person who asked the question is probably someone from that area or from the neighbouring area and you always have these rivalries there where one region doesn’t get along with another one. Frankfurt and Offenbach for example. Yeah, I think that person must have been a Heidelberger. We have the number plate HP and it used to be the acronym for “brain prosthetics”. I’ve heard that one before.

Host: What would you think about doing a race against Matthias Malmedie?
Seb: Against?
Host: Me.
Seb: Depends on the race.
Host: Something with cars, I’d say. Or you’ll take a bicycle and I can have the Ferrari and I’d have a genuine chance of winning.
Seb: Yeah. Sure that’d be interesting. You guys test cars [on the show] and have extra tracks for that. For me, my track is usually a F1 one and I don’t really do much racing in a street car. A lot more recently though cause I’m with Ferrari now. But I think it could be a good duel.
Host: So when would you have time?
Seb: Yeaah, that’s gonna be tough. But that would be fun for sure. No matter who wins or loses… if we get to pick the right cars, that would be fun.
Host: All right I’ll get back at you. I’ll definitely have time.
Seb: Ok. Time is for me… maybe when the season’s over.

Host: Which three cars are on your To Drive bucket list? You can pick anything you like, something futuristic or an Oldtimer. Do you like Oldtimer?
Seb: …yeah. Ferrari has it’s own division that is devoted to keeping the historic Formula 1 cars alive. Something that would appeal to me is the 2004 car, that’s Michael’s car. Over the past 6 months, I’ve driven plenty of Ferraris, which was really cool. Other cars…I really have to think this through now. I’d like to drive a Porsche 550 Spyder, that’s the James Dean porsche from back then. -Whoops now I have to be careful not the hit the camera car ahead.-
Host: Have you driven the 959?
Seb: No, not yet. Is it good?
Host: It’s amazing.
Seb: I think it looks a bit funny.
Host: It does but it has two turbo boosters.
Seb: Is it nice to drive?
Host: *rambles about two turbo boosters that I’m not even bothering to translate*
Seb: Sounds nice. Just aesthetically, I would have said no to that one. It’s a matter of taste. And I’d like to drive the 62 GTO. People talk a lot about that car but there aren’t many who own it. It’s not a bargain. But a test drive, that would be fun. An other racing cars… there are plenty of them. But the one that interests me the most is the 2004 one because of its dominance and had the V10. That one really pulled ahead.

Host: Do you tinker with your own private cars every time there’s a misfire or do you take them to a repair shop?
Seb: Generally you have to keep in mind that modern cars are pretty reliable nowadays. Usually nothing happens. It depends on what’s wrong. The problem with modern cars is if you get some error signal, you initially don’t have a clue what’s wrong. Then you take the handbook out and check what’s up and even then, you’re better off seeing someone at a shop because they plug their smart monitors in and can read up what exactly caused the error. The problem is that usually if you lift up the front hood, you should be able to tell that something is rattling inside but you can hardly see anything. That’s kind of a shame because I think it was better with old cars: you immediately saw the issue and were able to maybe solve the problem yourself. With modern cars that’s rather not the case. Changing tires from summer to winter, ok that’s something you can-
Host: Winter tires?
Seb: Yeah when you change your tires from summer to-
Host: You can’t tell me you’re changing your tires yourself?!
Seb: Yeah, why not, sure yeah
Host: *speechless*
Seb: *what the f did you think arm gesture*
Host: Are you serious now?
Seb: Yeah, that doesn’t take much time. It’s super fast
Host: Yeah it is but I didn’t think you would take the time for that
Seb: Well I mean, if nobody else does it
Host: So when’s cold, the winter tires have to come on
Seb: Exactly.

Question: This person asks “Do you want my number” ?
Seb: But I don’t know her
Host: I can show you
Seb: I can’t really see that much. I can’t see. Also I’m already off the market.
Host: Oh right, you’re already taken
Seb: But it’s the the ipad’s fault.
Host: Sorry, Anna [from facebook], I can’t do anything about that for you
Seb: But even if I had said yes, she didn’t even put her number there!
Host: Exactly, then I would have to do the communication for you
Seb: Ok. And then everyone else would also have the number.
*camera car comments*
Host: Another question, how did you meet your girlfriend?
Seb: At school.
Host: Your wife? Are you married?
Seb: Not yet.
Host: At school…which grade?
Seb: She was one year below me.
Host: Ok, and then like at the sports fest? [annual German school event]
Seb: Hm no, not really
Host: Like in the hallway?
Seb: Yeah, in the hallways and then maybe there was like a school festivity. Something like that. Pretty normal.
Host: And then you were like “Do you want my number” ?
Seb: I dunno. Back then numbers weren’t that relevant. But eventually we did exchange numbers.
Host: What did you tell her?
Seb: I don’t remember that.
Host: Oh come on.
Seb: “I feel stuff.” It took a while. I can’t really remember.
Host: You had to work on that?
Seb: Yeah, exactly.

Question: What’s your absolute dream car from your childhood and which one is it now?
Seb: It’s the same. And that’s a Ferrari F40. No lie! And not because Ferrari is Ferrari now but it’s always been that way. I used to have one of these traffic carpets and played around on it and the F40 always won.
Host. Ok and you have one of those now, correct?
Seb: Yes. True.
Host. Red?
Seb: Red. The one on the carpet was red too. That one has a few scratches but not the new one, thank god.
Host: How much petrol does it consume?
Seb: I don’t know. I haven’t checked that yet. There’s no display!
Host: How many kilometres have you driven with it?
Seb: A few. I have to guess now. A few thousands, maybe.
Host: A few thousands?
Seb: Yeah, quite a bit.
Host: That’s a lot.
Seb: It’s almost a classic now.
Host: So what are you doing when you’re not in a car?
Seb: I’m on a plane.
Host: No, like your favourite hobby?
Seb: I like to do lots of sport. Apart from that, just normal things like spending time with family and friends. Just normal things that people do. Like during summer time when there’s nice weather like right now, go for a swim, enjoy the sun.
Host: So let’s say, Sebastian Vettel arrives at the Starnberger Lake and wants to go for a swim. That’s not possible, right?
Seb: No, Starnberger Lake is a little bit too far away. But, I dunno, somewhere else at a normal lake maybe.
Host: But aren’t you immediately surrounded by people?
Seb: No.
Host: Are people in Switzerland more reserved?
Seb: Generally, when I’m outside it’s not a problem. Maybe occasionally someone says hi and maybe you take a picture.
Host: But it’s all possible? [to be out and about]
Seb: Yeah. that’s all possible.
Host: Going for a swim. I like going for swims too.
Seb: Yeah, exactly. If it’s hot, everyone does that.

Question: Has there ever been a moment inside the F1 car, when you thought to yourself, Ok now my pants will get wet….because of accidents, risky maneuvers, drifting something like that?
Seb: Yes. But I’d say I’ve never had a big accident *knocks on car* But there are moments when you’re going for the limit, and go over the limit, and then *gasp* lose the car but usually it was possible to continue after that. So everything was fine.
Host: Anything in particular that you immediately thought of when you heard the question?
Seb: I had this one accident once where I broke my finger. In Spa. I lost the car coming out of Eau Rouge and hit the wall. Uhm, yeah. But like I said, I didn’t have any big accidents so to speak. But these moments when you lose the car like *gasp* these moments of shock are always happening. That moment when you really lose the car and can’t get it under control anymore is really not a nice one. When you’re not able to do anything anymore and know there’ll be an impact soon that’s not really great…but ok. That’s part of it all.

Host: Are you ok with me doing a facebook video right now?
Seb: *confused* *shrugs* No problem.
Host: *films a video announcing Seb’s appearance that’s coming up*
*random commentary about the camera car, what a bad angle this was and jokes about how slowly Seb is driving*
Seb: *makes up for the previous slow drive and hits the throttle* Now that was 100kmh! 105! [that’s not even the standard standard Autobahn pace which is 120+]
Host: 102.3 or something!
Seb: It was 105.
Host: That’s still in order. What do you think about the turbo in this one?
*someone over the radio tells them to do that again but this time faster*
Seb: I think it’s a good one. Because…usually turbos have this fall [in pace before the boost kicks in] but this one doesn’t at all. So it’s top. It’s lots of fun.
Host: And the Speciale you have, that one sounds extremely different, doesn’t it?
Seb: Yeah, obviously. That’s a lot different.
Host: *turbo ramble*
Seb: But the driving feel is not different.
Host: [talking about traffic] I think you can go.
Seb: Yeah I was just looking. There wasn’t anyone ahead of us right
Host: Ok I have another question here. That one is not on me. It’s from Pavios and he asks “Have you ever thought about sex while driving down a long straight track at over 300kmh?”
Seb: Next!
*does the really fast driving shot for the camera*
Host: I’ll probably still be grinning tonight! What do you say, Seb?
Seb: Yeah! It was good.
Host: Will you let me drive for a bit?
Seb: Sure, we can stop over there. And then you can have a go. Alone! I’m not driving with you!
Host: Next question: Is there anything that drives you insane on public traffic and what’s something that you would immediately change if you were appointed traffic minister?
Seb: Traffic jam.
Host: Abolish traffic jam?
Seb: Abolish traffic jam *laughs*
Host: Traffic jam drives you nuts?
Seb: Especially because I think the Autobahn isn’t designed for that nowadays. Not anymore.

Host: Unbelieveable but it’s true. Now Sebastian Vettel is driving with me!
Seb: I think I would have preferred to take the bicycle!
*random commentary about the radio*
Host: These gears are really impressive. And how fast it chances them.
Seb: Yeah, they really are! Unbelievable. The moment it switches is ideal when you’re doing it yourself [don’t even ask me I have no clue what they are talking about really]
Host: Have you ever driven Laferrari?
Seb: Yes but the special version of that one. That’s the FXX K. The one that’s even stronger. That one goes like an animal.
Host: Like an animal?
Seb: Yeah, it has over 1000 horsepower.
Host: And now you own one of those too?
Seb: No. No, unfortunately not.
Host: But that one’s not legal on public streets, is it?
Seb: It is! Oh, the special version, no. That’s just for racing tracks.
Host. And a normal one, do you have that one?
Seb: No.
Host: Would you like one?
Seb: Would be nice. But I think they are all sold out.
Host: Sold out?
Seb: There’s only 500.
Host: Yeah, but I mean if you want one…?
Seb: Yeah but if they are all gone…
Host: You could buy one privately. One that’s still in good condition.
Seb: Yeah but…ok yeah that would be possible.
Host: But [driving the Laferrari] really feels like the world is ending, right?
Seb: Yeah, it’s brutal violence.
Host: I’ve never driven that one, unfortunately. I’ve driven the Enzo one but-
Seb: But that one’s super fast too right. Haven’t driven that one yet.
Host: *drives fast and talks about how calm Seb instead of hassling him about his driving style*
Seb: That move right there was not really clever! Going on the throttle even though there’s a truck ahead of us.
Host: That was for the camera!
Seb: But if you’re sitting inside the truck-
Host: Yeah that doesn’t look very nice.
Seb: But apart from that the road was free.
Radio: *tells them where to drive and to switch*
Seb: I’d be down for that. Switch!
Host: Any questions left?
Seb: Yeah here’s one about whether or not my balls are vibrating when I’m driving.
Host: And?
Seb: I’d say everything vibrates so I don’t know if that answers the question.
[next question] How many cars have I destroyed? Well…I don’t know. I don’t have to repair them, thank god. Maybe that’s why I don’t know. There’s always some collateral damage.
Host: But only racing cars?
Seb: No street cars. No accident yet.

Sebastian Vettel holds the F1 record for the shortest time elapsed before picking up a penalty. He was caught speeding in the pit lane in practice for the 2006 Turkish Grand Prix almost immediately after he had exited the garage, just nine seconds into his F1 career. It cost him $1000.

Četvrti dio:
Seb: Here’s another question: How often does Seb watch GRIP on TV? I answered this one: Whenever there’s nothing better on!
Host: Cheeky!
Seb: *laughs*
Seb: It’s free. So…then, drive now! Here you could have used full throttle but not over there.
Host: Is this going to be you teaching me now, then?
Seb: Nooo, it’s fine.
Host: Yes! Let’s do that. Please correct me.
Seb: That was just a joke. Everything’s good. *looks at the display* It’s still only 100 here?
Host: It’s 105! Same speed you had.

Host: Are you a good front-seat passenger?
Seb: Uuuh…no.
Host: We’ve been driving for 100metres and you haven’t said a word.
Seb: The camera is on.
Host: You’re free to say anything you want.
Seb: No, usually I’d say I am… yeah… well, if I’m honest, I’m not good at riding shotgun. I prefer to drive myself. But…yeah. There has only been that one time that I had to pretend feeling sick so that we could switch.
Host: Who was it?
Seb: Uhm. A woman.
Host: Will that woman now know it was her?
Seb: No, it was an Italian. So it’s ok. She won’t watch this. She had been driving really strangely, like wiggly lines, and it got darker and darker and then she said that she usually wears glasses and that she’s a little night-blind. And then I was like Shall we switch? -No, no! It’s ok I always drive this way. And then at one point, when we got closer to the oncoming traffic, I was like “I feel so sick. Stop, stop! I think I’m gonna throw up.” And then we stopped and I immediately pulled the keys and got out and said: No more! We’re switching now or I’ll throw the keys into the field and walk. And then she let me drive. Maybe she was a little nervous or something. But when she said her vision is lacking the ability to see far in the dark…that was it. We don’t have to do that.

Host: So in a Formula 1 car the gear shifter is at the steering wheel.
Seb: Yes. Just like here.
Host: No, this one is fixed.
Seb: Yes, but yeah. Ok, not quite the same, but similar.
Host: Which do you prefer?
Seb: At the steering wheel.
Host: So when it’s not fixed [like in an F1 car]
Seb: Yes.
Host: Do they come to you and ask “Sebastian, we have this new design here that we’re working on…?
Seb: Well, I haven’t been with them for that long but yeah-
Host: Is that only happening now?
Seb: It’s more likely to happen these days now. The cars are ready, and if I had the time, I could go for a ride. But let’s say, we’re worried about different things at the moment.
Host: It’ll work out! It’s really cool to see the progress [at Ferrari]. It warms my heart. I’m being honest now. Even if it’s just baby steps.
Seb: Yeah, I think it’ll still take a while. It’s not a matter of a few days. But I think it’ll be fine.

Host: Are you up for getting some ice cream?
Seb: That’s fine by me but…time?
Host: We can buy some ice cream, it’s on me-
Seb: And I’ll drive on!
Host: Exactly! You’ll ditch me. No but seriously, ice cream would be nice now, no?
Seb: …wouldn’t be too bad. Not bad.
Host: 27 degrees! Ferrari cabrio.
Seb: I think my outfit is a little bit too eye-catching.
Host: Then you’ll stay seated and I’ll get the ice cream.

Host: Now we didn’t even leave any black marks on the street.
Seb: I tried it back there but the road went uphill.
Host: Tomorrow then!
Seb: Exactly. I’ll be on my bicycle tomorrow. I don’t have enough power to do black markings though!
Host: *tells story about some youtube video of a kid doing burnouts or donuts with a bike*
Seb: Was there smoke?
Host: A little.
Seb: Not bad.

Host: So, what kind of guy is Kimi?
Seb: What kind guy is he supposed to be…
Host: Does he really drink that much?
Seb: Nah…
Host: But he does like to party?
Seb: Yeah, occasionally.
Host: And how’s your relationship with him? Are you buddies?
Seb: Yeah, yeah. Well “buddies” is difficult. But we’ve always got along. It’s very straight-forward.
Host: But being buddies doesn’t exist [in F1] so teammates are strictly competitors?
Seb: Yeah, but that’s not what it depends on. I’d say nothing has changed since we became teammates. But I’d say real friendship is difficult because everyone is doing their own thing so that’s why. But I do get along with him pretty much the most.
Host: With him the most? Really?
Seb: Pretty much.
Host: What about Hülkenberg?
Seb: We’ve known each other for ages. We drove cart together and against each other. No problems.
Host: Will he join Ferrari?
Seb: I don’t know, to be honest! I heard of quite a few discussions, but not so much recently. I don’t know what kind of contract Kimi has or doesn’t have. If he joins, then I’ll have slightly more space inside the car because he’s a little taller.
Host: Oh, so the car gets reconstructed for him.
Seb: Yeaaah well, I don’t know if it has to be reconstructed but Niko is quite tall that’s why we’d need space. But for a smaller one, that’s good ‘cause there’s more space.

Host: So what’s it like to sit in a Formula 1 car. How do you drive that?
Seb: Well not like this here.
Host: That’s obvious.
Seb: You’re lying and the legs are higher up than the butt.
Host: The legs are higher than the butt?!
Seb: Yes.
Host: So it’s basically like in a bath tub.
Seb: *puts feet on dashboard* Kinda like this, not as extreme of course but the principle is similar. You stretch the legs a little more. So the legs are about this much higher than the butt. But it’s really comfortable.
Host: And the seat has been designed to fit you 100% ?
Seb: Exactly.
Host: And then leather and foam?
Seb: No, foam is too heavy. Plastic is also to heavy.
Host: Foam is too heavy?!
Seb: There are two different components they use to make your shape and then they scan it, and from that they’ll produce a carbon seat.
Host: So it’s made from carbon and the only thing that separates your skin from the seat is your race overall.
Seb: Yes and on some places you might have small pieces of foam rubber for a little bit of padding.
Host: Like for your shoulder blade, for example.
Seb: Exactly.
Host: And how easy is the steering wheel? Is it like in this car here?
Seb: No, it is harder but we do have power steering. The geometry of the front suspension doesn’t allow not having power steering. I’d say back in the day, in the mid-90ies, early 90ies, they used to drive without power steering but as soon as aerodynamics became more crucial, they adapted the geometry in order to support the aerodynamics. And it would be almost impossible to drive one of today’s cars without power steering. So that’s why it’s easier to steer than back when they didn’t have that, but if it was as easy as in this car here, then you’d lose the feeling for the car so you’d need a little [help]
Host: So how about the start. What do I have to do?
Seb: Gear.
Host: Gear, ok.
Seb: Let go of the clutch.
Host: Where’s the clutch. Down here?
Seb: You don’t have one. Yes, I have two clutches: one left, one right. You hold the first one near a pressure point, the other one prevents you from driving too early. Then you let go of the first one and release the other one slowly and accelerate.
Host: When? When do you release the second one?
Seb: By instinct.
Host: After the first 3 metres or? 10, 20?
Seb: Depends on how much grip the track has. After about…yeah… maybe a second, two seconds, something like that.
Host: That’s like 100kmh probably.
Seb: Yes. *laughs* No shortly before that. 1, 2 chuck. [that’s what he said]
*more rambling on how and when exactly to release the clutch*
