A number of reliable sources have confirmed that the FIA, F1 and the teams have agreed on a new date and a new location for this year's only pre-season test.
The test was originally scheduled to take place from March 2 to 4 in Barcelona, but given the latest calendar changes by which Bahrain became the first race of the season, it was agreed to move the test to the Bahraini track.
The start date of the test has been moved to March 12 and will end on March 14, two weeks before the race for the Bahrain GP. Teams will have half as many pre-season test days this year as they had in 2020, but that should be less of a problem given the carryover of much of last year’s cars in 2021 to cut costs.
There was an idea to hold the test just a week before the race, in the term of the postponed Australian Grand Prix, which would require a change to the sports regulations which stipulates that the test must start at least 10 days before the first race weekend. The only team that did not approve of the idea was McLaren who, due to the transition from Renault to Mercedes engines, wants to keep a greater distance to better prepare for the start of the season.
Bahrain last hosted a pre-season test at the very beginning of the hybrid era, in 2014.

Williams used to vote against electricity too… I hope McLaren won’t that way either.

It is normal for them to look at their interests and vote that way, which in my opinion is quite ok and logical.
On the other hand, we have a Ferrari and a Binotta who clung to everyone for the "benefit of sport".

It’s unclear to me what the point is to have your own test tracks and all those wonders when everything is forbidden. Schumacher loved being in the car every day, not this nonsense with simulators.
